Man killed in East End crash is named
The victim of Saturday night’s fatal road crash has been named by police.
Rakai Augustus, 30, was seriously injured when the car he was a passenger in hit a wall in the area of Wellington and York Streets between Rose Hill Street and Fort George Hill in St George’s.
Mr Augustus was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.
The accident happened at about 11.40pm.
The 29-year-old woman driver of the car was also injured in the crash and later arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.
The damaged car has been impounded by police and inquiries into the incident continue.
The woman is being treated in hospital for injuries said by police to be “potentially serious but not believed to be life threatening”.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 247-1788.
