More contractors for the airport redevelopment project have been announced.

Aecon Group has awarded the mechanical contract to Update Contracting Bermuda Airport Limited (Update Contracting), and its fuel hydrant system contract to Phoenix Petroleum.

Update Contracting, a Dublin, Ireland-based company registered in Bermuda, was described as “a multidisciplinary provider of mechanical, engineering and plumbing services with experience in providing building services engineering to a wide range of client sectors”, according to a statement issued by Skyport.

For the mechanical systems contract, Update Contracting will be working with subcontractors to complete the following work:

• Air Care Bermuda will provide and install fire alarm and sprinkler systems, in association with Troy Life Safety Ltd;

• BAC Group of Companies will supply chilled water, plumbing and refrigeration systems;

• Keen Limited has been selected to fit ventilation systems for the building.

Meanwhile, Phoenix Petroleum has been hired for the fuel hydrant system.

They will work with local subcontractor Raposo Welding Services Limited, based in St. George’s.

Aecon’s executive director for infrastructure, Frank Ross, said the expertise of local companies would be “invaluable in ensuring that the new facility is world-class and meets Bermuda’s local standards”.

He added: “We look forward to working with them.”

The construction of the new airport terminal is expected to take 40 months to complete, to be finished in 2020.
