The Bermuda Union of Teachers voiced support for the recently unveiled Plan 2022, saying it will co-operate fully if it helps students.

Shannon James, president of the BUT, said the union was heavily involved in the development of the five-year strategic plan for the island’s schools.

“We appreciated the opportunity that was given to us, and we are committed to making sure that Plan 2022 succeeds because we want our young children to succeed,” he said.

“Every teacher in Bermuda wants to see every student reach their potential and hopefully Plan 2022, when implemented, will ensure our young people receive the best education we can offer.

“We believe that education is the building block of any successful society and we feel that this is definitely a step in the right direction.”

Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education and Workforce Development, released the plan this month as a five-year road map for the island’s educational system.

He said the Department of Education will be working on delivery plans this month with the first roll out of the plan taking place in January.
