Ready to bring in new year in style
Hamilton and St George’s are to ring in the New Year with music and celebrations — but no fireworks.
The municipalities will instead focus on musical entertainment on Front Street in Hamilton and King’s Square in St George’s.
The City of Hamilton’s New Year’s Eve plans will feature musical performances by a range of artists including US R&B singer Keri Hilson.
Ms Hilson topped the charts in 2007 with The Way I Are, and won the BET Award for Best New Artist in 2009.
She has collaborated with Kanye West, Ne-Yo, Nelly and Lil Wayne, cowrote songs for Britney Spears and Mary J Blige, and appeared in films including Riddick and Think Like a Man.
The event will feature a screening of the family film Descendants 2 and performances by local DJ D’General and Bermuda Idol winner Olivia Hamilton before Ms Hilson takes to the stage.
Island group Working Title will perform after Ms Hilson as the clock ticks down to midnight.
A city spokeswoman said: “We do have some food vendors coming, and there will also be a Kids Zone.
“With regards to fireworks, we know of no one locally who has taken over the reins for fireworks shows. We have to wait and see, just like everyone else, as to who will jump on that bandwagon.”
The event is free but VIP tickets are available at ptix.bm for $55 which offer ticket holders a designated bar and a front-row view.
Festivities in St George’s will start at King’s Square at 8pm, with emcee Nadanja presenting a range of live entertainment.
Devil’s Isle Audio, Black Lion Sound and Shine Hayward are all scheduled to perform in the Olde Towne.
A spokesman for the Corporation of St George’s said Rockfire Productions will light up the East End with fire breathing and fire dancing in place of fireworks.
