The Elliot Street car park is set to reopen on Monday with a newly installed barrier system.

A spokeswoman for the City of Hamilton said the completed parking lot will have a two-lane entrance only on Elliot Street, with no access from Dundonald Street.

There will be two exit lanes on Dundonald Street and one onto Elliot Street.

The spokeswoman said the parking lot will operate with a two-ticket system similar to the City Hall and Par-la-Ville car parks.

She said: “If leaving Elliot Street car park within 10 minutes of entering, scan your “Entry” ticket at the exit at no cost.

“Pay stations or EasyPark Mobile must be used if time in the lot extends past 10 minutes.

“Payment is made at the end of your stay, not upon entry. Upon payment, motorists will have 15 minutes to leave the lot using their validated “Exit” ticket.

The price of parking at the lot will remain $1 per hour, with a maximum of $5 per visit, and four pay stations will be available in the lot.

The spokeswoman said: “Those parking in the Elliot Street lot are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the upgrades, changes and signage posted in the lot.

“The public is reminded that CCTV cameras will be in operation at the entrances as well as the exits of the lot.

“Any attempt to defraud the payment system will result in prosecution.”

The spokeswoman added the City is looking into changing the two-ticket system to a single ticket system at all of the barrier lots in the near future.
