The 90th Academy Awards® were a boost for the upcoming Bermuda International Film Festival. Four of the features being shown March 17-25th at BIFF 2018 are Academy Award® recognised films. This includes the opening film ‘Lady Bird’ on Sunday March 18th, plus documentary ‘Faces Places’ on Monday March 19th, feature ‘The Square’ on Friday March 23rd, as well as multiple Oscar® winner ‘Shape of Water’ on Saturday March 24th. A ‘Focus on Features’ pass for $149 dollars will give you access to all eight features, including the International Premiere ‘Change in the Air’ with Rachel Brosnahan, Aidan Quinn, and Olympia Dukakis.

Oscar® winner of the Live Action Shorts ‘The Silent Child’ will open the Competitive Short Sets being held weekdays over BIFF 2018 at Lunchtime and Happy Hour. Participate in all the short film screenings with the ‘Shorts Full-on’ pass for $99, showing at Speciality Cinema II.

‘Faces Places” Agnes Varda is one of the leading lights of France’s honoured French New Wave cinema era, and professional photographer and muralist, J.R., partake on a special art project. Together, they travel around France in a special box truck equipped as a portable photo booth and travelling printing facility as they take photographs of people around the country. With that inspiration, they also create special colossal mural pictures of individuals, communities and places they want to honour and celebrate. A museum’s PR agency has created an unexpected campaign for “The Square”. Christian is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum, a divorced but devoted father of two who drives an electric car and supports good causes. His next show is “The Square”, an installation which invites passers-by to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. ‘The Shape of Water’ is an otherworldly fable set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1962. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of isolation. An implausible commando consisting of a gentle Soviet spy, a mute feminist, a janitor and an old painter try to save an amphibious creature from a secret lab in the early ‘60s, and tracked by an unlikeable military agent.
