Storm leaves hundreds without power
A winter storm that delivered hurricane-force gusts moved on from Bermuda yesterday, leaving hundreds of residences without power.
Yesterday began with close to 3,500 homes in the dark, with more than 500 in the Harrington Sound area where a transformer blew.
Scattered outages persisted elsewhere on the island as Belco crews continued with restoration efforts. By 1pm the number was approaching 900, all weather-related.
Powerful winds out of the northwest and west drove choppy seas against exposed areas of the island, and a small-craft warning was posted last night by the Bermuda Weather Service, which is valid through tomorrow.
Fair weather was expected to persist today, but a cold front is forecast to pass over the island tomorrow with showers.
