Fire on Hinsons Island not an emergency

A controlled burn on Hinsons Island this morning has resulted in several calls to emergency services.
Lieutenant Russann Francis of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service said a number of calls had come in, but that the fire was horticultural waste being burnt by residents.
She added: “It is important that when anyone plans to burn horticultural waste, which is the only waste that members of the public are allowed to burn, that they contact the fire service’s dispatch centre at 296-7559, informing them when they intend to start, and when they intend to finish.
“That way the BFRS can know in advance, and know if the fire continues beyond its allotted time to investigate it as a possible incident.”
