A bestselling author will bring an inspiring message to Bermuda as part of Autism Awareness Month.

Kerry Magro, who was diagnosed with autism at age 4, is now a professional speaker, author, movie consultant and the founder of autism charity KFM Making a Difference.

He will visit schools across the island and speak on the Teacher Talk radio show, on Magic 102.7, on April 19, and at Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on April 24.

Bermuda Autism Support and Education arranged Mr Magro’s visit as a highlight of a series of events to generate autism awareness.

BASE president Anthony Peets said: “The visit of Kerry Magro will be an opportunity for parents and practitioners to hear first-hand the relentless efforts and supports that are needed to be in place for one on the autism spectrum.

“Kerry was non-verbal and is now a university graduate who speaks all over the world. We thank all in advance who will come and hear his poignant life story.”

Other autism awareness events include a proclamation on the City Hall steps on Monday.

The National Autistic Society in Britain describes autism as a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people, and how they experience the world around them.

Mr Magro will speak on “Defining Autism: From Non-verbal to Professional Speaker”. Doors open at 5.30pm. Tickets cost $25 for BASE members and $35 for non-members.
