National security minister Wayne Caines paid tribute to former judge Ephraim Georges.

Mr Georges, from Dominica, who served in Bermuda from 1984 to 1988, died aged 82 last month.

Mr Caines said in a statement: “On behalf of the Government of Bermuda, I wish to extend my sincerest and deepest condolences on the passing of Justice Ephraim Georges.

“He was a much admired figure throughout the Commonwealth and Caribbean legal fraternity.

“During his time in Bermuda, serving as magistrate and Acting Supreme Court Justice, he always sought to ensure that the rule of law was applied fairly.

“Bermuda joins the Commonwealth in remembering Justice Georges as a distinguished jurist and judge who dedicated his life to noble service.

“He was respected and admired both locally and abroad and he will be greatly missed. Bermuda sends its thoughts and prayers to Justice Georges’ family and friends during their time of grief.”
