Student leaders will give advice about safe online behaviour at a conference next Monday.

The Digital Citizenship Conference, hosted by the Ministry of National Security, will feature sessions, workshops and panel discussions about cyberbullying, social media and parent awareness.

National security minister Wayne Caines said: “Our young people interact daily using a variety of online platforms, and it’s essential that we provide them with the necessary tools to ensure their safety in today’s digital world.

“We want to ensure they know how to protect themselves from such situations as cyberbullying and online predators.

“Ultimately, we want all those who attend this conference, including parents and educators, to leave feeling knowledgeable and empowered about navigating in today’s digital environment.”

The event, organised by the Department of ICT Policy and Innovation Cybertips Initiative, takes place at Ruth Seaton James Auditorium, from 8.30am and continuing into the evening.

Keynote speakers are Deana Puccio, of The Rap Project and Berkeley student Sierra Brangman.

Other presentations will focus on education, social services, law enforcement, social media and child protective services.
