A truck driver was taken to hospital yesterday after his vehicle crashed through a wall and down an embankment.

The victim’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening after the incident on Harrington Sound Road, near the junction with Quarry Road, at about 9.45am.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service helped remove the man from the works and engineering vehicle before he was placed on a gurney and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

At about 10.30am, public works staff were at the scene to cut a branch so that the industrial waste truck could be removed. One attempt to pull the vehicle out using a fork-lift failed after the chain attaching the two vehicles snapped.

The truck was finally lifted from its spot at about 11.45am. Traffic was diverted from the scene.

Witnesses should call police on 295-0011.

UPDATE: This morning, police said the victim, a 59-year-old man from Sandys, has been medically assessed and discharged from hospital.
