Cyclist hurt in Southampton crash

A cyclist suffered head injuries in a crash with a motorcycle this morning.

The collision happened in the area of South Road and Turtle Bay Lane, Southampton, at about 6.45am.

A police spokesman said: “It appears that the female motorcyclist with a male pillion passenger and the male pedal cycle rider were travelling in the westbound lane of South Road when the collision occurred.

“The 52-year-old Warwick woman and a 20-year-old Warwick man on the motorcycle, as well as the 69-year-old Paget man riding the pedal cycle, were hurt.

“All three were apparently transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance and at last check had been treated and discharged.”

Officers steered motorists away from the scene of the crash for around two hours this morning.

Meanwhile, two people injured in crashes in the past few days remain in intensive care in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

A 66-year-old Devonshire cyclist, who was hurt in a collision with a motorcycle in Devonshire on Saturday night, was listed as critical this morning.

A 44-year-old St George’s motorcyclist, who crashed into a wall and metal post in St George’s on Sunday night, was listed as stable.

However, an 18-year-old Hamilton Parish woman who was injured in a crash yesterday has now been released from hospital.

Police say her motorcycle collided with a car travelling the opposite way at the junction of Court Street and Dundonald Street in Hamilton, shortly after 4pm.

The rider was treated and discharged from hospital, while her pillion passenger suffered cuts.

Witnesses should call police on 295-0011.
