Motorcyclist banned for dangerous driving

A 49-year-old man who admitted racing away from police after his bike was stopped was today banned from the roads for 18 months.

Ryan Fox, of Pembroke, pleaded guilty to disobeying a traffic sign, dangerous driving and escaping custody in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Magistrates’ Court heard that police stopped Fox after he turned onto Washington Street from Victoria Street.

He was stopped at the southern end of Washington Street and issued a ticket for disobeying a traffic sign.

Police discovered after the stop that Fox had outstanding arrest warrants.

Fox sped off after he was ordered off his motorcycle.

He travelled the wrong way on Church Street and forced cars to take evasive action to avoid a collision.

Fox then mounted the sidewalk and rode towards City Hall.

Police did not pursue Fox because of the danger to the public.

The court heard that the incident, which happened on June 30, was captured on CCTV.

Fox apologised for his actions in court.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo imposed the ban on the dangerous driving charge.

Mr Tokunbo adjourned sentencing on the other charges until August 16 and ordered a social inquiry report.

Fox was released on $2,000 bail.
