Senate passes Bill on audit committee

The Cabinet Building: houses the upper chamber of Bermuda's Parliament, The Senate

Senior civil servants will be able to sit on Government’s Internal Audit Committee after an amendment Act was approved by the Senate. The Bill amends the Internal Audit Act 2010 to allow for a Permanent Secretary to serve on the committee.

Any appointment of a Permanent Secretary will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. But no one will be allowed to serve for more than two terms in succession.

The Internal Audit Amendment Act 2018 was passed without objection in the Upper Chamber.

Vance Campbell, of the Progressive Labour Party, said the amendment was “simply a housekeeping matter”.

Nandi Outerbridge of the One Bermuda Alliance said the party had “no issues with the changes”.
