Mirrors to host junior camp
The Mirrors Programme will host a six-day Junior Forum SuperCamp for middle schoolers from August 21 to 26.
The event will take place at Willowbank Resort and Conference Centre in Somerset.
Social development minister Michael Weeks said: “This is an opportunity for students aged 11 to 13 years to engage in a camp with a focus on communication, critical thinking and character development as well as innovation learning strategies and academic skills.”
Fifteen spaces remain available on the subsidised six-day Mirrors Camp, which will give 60 middle school students an opportunity to develop their socio-emotional skills, to build and maintain relationships with others more effectively, and gain neuroscience-based learning techniques to enhance their school performance.
A Ministry of Social Development and Sports spokeswoman said SuperCamp uses a structured curriculum to provide students with intensive personal development and learning strategies to be more effective learners.
Students will be introduced to the ‘8 Keys of Excellence’, which focus on developing values-based behaviour. Mirrors SuperCamp is designed to keep student minds and bodies moving and engaged throughout the day as they learn and have fun in a safe and supportive environment.
A two-day parent workshop is also being offered in conjunction with the camp for parents of students who participate. The two-day workshop is an opportunity for parents to be introduced to the 8 Keys of Excellence and the concepts provided to students during their four-day workshop and will run from August 25 and 26.
To register your child for camp, contact Nicola Paugh on nmpaugh@gov.bm or call the Mirrors office on 294-9291. Registration forms must be received by July 25.
