Police today warned boat owners to beware of thieves.

The alert came after a string of break-ins on private and commercial vessels.

A police spokesman said: “In some cases, large amounts of alcohol, boat parts and other valuables such as fishing equipment have been removed and these occurrences have been island wide.”

He added that owners should make sure valuables are under lock and key and if possible, remove them from their vessels.

The spokesman said: “We are also requesting that if you see anyone acting suspiciously please make note of the vessel, get a description of the suspects and notify 2950011.”
