Mirrors honoured their best and brightest volunteers for their hard work and dedication to the programme.

The Mirrors Volunteer Appreciation Reception, held last Friday, recognised more than 60 volunteers who had repeatedly stepped forward to help.

Among the honourees were Barbara Tucker, Glenn Tucker, Kerry Judd, Ruth Moran and Tucoma Robinson, who had completed ten or more volunteer roles in the programme.

Cerepha Bridgeman, Gil Lightbourne, Jonathan Nisbett, Lindell Foster and Lora Blyden meanwhile volunteered between seven and nine times.

Local doctors Gordon Campbell and Shaina Kelly received awards for providing pro-bono medicals to Community Programme participants over the past years, while Anton Gilbert of Outward Bound was recognised for his support of Mirrors’ Outdoor Adventure Day on Paget Island and the Fort Restoration Project.

And Ruth Moran was awarded for providing many years of medical support by volunteering as Mirrors’ residential wellness person.

The event was held at the Masterworks Museum of Art, which is the host of Mirrors’ second annual Student Art and Digital Competition.

Michael Weeks, Minister of Social Development and Sports, spoke in praise of the volunteers’ hard work since the programme launched.

Mr Weeks said: “When the Mirrors Programme was established 11 years ago, it consisted of a single community programme for youth aged 15 to 18 years.

“The success of that programme, due in large part to your contributions as volunteers and supporters, resulted in the organisation positively impacting youth and expanding its services, continuously evolving.

“This included incorporating an innovative new curriculum, as well as a student art and digital competition.

Mr Weeks added: “We couldn’t have made it to this moment without you. Mirrors volunteers are some of the most amazing individuals a person could ever meet.”
