A car crashed into a wall before going over an embankment in Southampton on Saturday morning.

The driver, said to be an 82-year-old Southampton man, was apparently unhurt and able to get out of the vehicle on his own according to a police report.

The crash happened on Riviera Road near the railway trail at about 10.10am.

The driver was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical assessment as a precaution due to a pre-existing medical condition.

The damaged car was later towed away.

Earlier on Saturday, a man had to be extricated from his car after crashing into a wall on Somerset Road, Sandys.

The 25-year-old Southampton man was driving his car in the eastbound lane when it struck the wall by the entrance to Willowbank Resort at about 1.25am.

Police and first responders attended the single vehicle crash near the junction with Wilson Place.

It appears the man was driving along Somerset Road in the eastbound lane when the incident took place.

He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of a leg injury and an update on his condition is expected in due course.

The damaged vehicle was towed away.
