Pupil lands scholarship for Canada
A former Warwick Academy pupil has been awarded a scholarship worth up to $36,000 to study at a Canadian university.
Elizabeth Francoeur, 18, will get $9,000 a year for up to four years to study commerce at McGill University in Quebec.
Ms Francoeur attended Warwick Academy between 2004 and 2018, except for 2008 to 2011, when she was a pupil at Greenfield Elementary School in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
She notched up top grades in her GCSEs and in the International Baccalaureate programme and was on the Warwick Academy Principal’s List honour roll every year since 2014.
Ms Francoeur also won subject awards in ICT, chemistry, economics and French.
She was appointed deputy head girl and was responsible for a high school level mentor programme.
Ms Francoeur also choreographed a school musical and raised funds to build a herb and vegetable garden to support the school’s food and nutrition department.
She attended the Berlin Model United Nations Conference as a delegate of South Korea in 2018.
Ms Francoeur was a member of the Economic and Social Council, where she drafted resolutions and took part in debates on women’s empowerment.
The keen dancer has been a member of the InMotion Dance Company and trained in ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance.
Ms Francoeur represented the dance school overseas at the Grier Gala in Pennsylvania and performed at TEDx Bermuda and the America’s Cup.
The scholarship is from the McGill Bermuda Scholarship Trust, which offers the Dudley and Deborah Butterfield Scholarship and the McGill Bermuda Scholarship in alternate years.
