Bermuda College students are to wear red tomorrow in a protest against violence.

The initiative was organised by student organisation MenSpeak as part of the college’s Spirit Week.

Lyndon Jackson, the coordinator for MenSpeak, said: “Although this event is driven by male students, gang violence is something that connects with all students.

“This is a symbolic gesture to stop the violence. It’s a time of coming together.”

Desmond Crockwell, an anti-violence campaigner and founder of community group Visionz, and anti-violence activist Antonio Belvedere, a former Student Government Council president, will deliver speeches about gang violence, and what can be done to address it.

A moment of silence will be observed to honour the memory of those who lost their lives as a result of gang violence.

Several Government ministers are expected to be in attendance to support the students.

MenSpeak was designed to give male students an opportunity to become involved in the community.

The lunchtime event is scheduled to begin at noon tomorrow in the College courtyard.
