Kiwanis club to honour hero Sidney
The Kiwanis Club of St George’s is to recognise a local hero at a special dinner reception next week.
Its Hero of the Year initiative aims to honour those who perform acts of heroism in the year prior. The event will be held tomorrow at the St George’s Club Resort when the candidate will be revealed.
Gary Kent-Smith, the club president, said: “The initiative has been going for about eight years, but when there was a change in administration, there was a brief hiatus. As a club, we thought it was a worthwhile project to recognise those heroes who put their own lives at risk in order to save another.”
Last year’s recipient was Sidney Mello, who saved three persons from the threat of drowning on three separate occasions.
This year’s presentation takes place at the club’s regular dinner from 7pm. All are welcome to attend and booking is requested.
