Top ballet dancer to hold master classes
A top dancer from Bermuda who now performs with the national ballet company of Wales is to hold a master class for youngsters this month.
Krystal Lowe, who works for Ballet Cymru in Wales, will teach three hour-long classes at Somerset School of Dance, where she was once a pupil.
Ms Lowe said: “The sessions will be a great mixture of ballet and creative skills by encouraging and leading participants in creating their own exercises during class.
“For the final session, we will warm up, then spend our time collaboratively creating a contemporary piece.”
Ms Lowe added that the classes will focus on creative movement in ballet and contemporary dance styles for children aged 10 and above.
She studied ballet at the Somerset School of Dance for seven years and graduated with distinction in 2012.
Ms Lowe said: “I am extremely excited to see the talent that has been developing over the past seven years since I’ve been gone.”
A spokeswoman for the Somerset dance school said it was important for children to meet and learn from dancers who had been successful in their careers.
She added: “I think it’s important for our youth to recognise that if they do have an interest in dance that they can resonate with somebody, specifically a local.”
The classes are open to the general public, though some experience in dance is needed.
The workshop will be held on March 23 on the third floor of the Berkeley Cultural Centre in Pembroke.
The cost is $25 per class and limited spaces are available.
