Parish Council gives cash aid to students
A group of “well-deserving” Bermuda College students were today given a total of more than $10,000 towards their tuition fees.
Daeshone Young, who was awarded a full scholarship of $6,000, was among four students assisted with their education by Pembroke Parish Council.
The 17-year-old is enrolled in the business administration associate degree programme at the college.
The other three each received awards of $1,500 each.
Shaddi Hollis, Reza Suhartono and D’Naje Washington, all aged 17, are enrolled in the associate arts degree programme.
Patricka Ferguson, the chairwoman of the council, said that the awards would be an annual event.
She encouraged other Pembroke residents to apply to the council’s scholarship committee.
Ms Ferguson said: “Education is one of the best investments we can make in the our community.
“The council is pleased to be able to award the funds to well-deserving students who are committed to making a difference.
“We commend them for their scholastic diligence and for their well-roundedness in community service and extracurricular involvement, and look forward to them working with the council throughout the tenure of their award.”
