Members of the public can now buy wheelie bins for their trash and recyclables as part of a pilot programme launched by the Ministry of Public Works.

The garbage bins have a capacity of 360 litres and cost $125. The 140-litre recycling bins cost $40.

Households are limited to two of each bin type.

A ministry spokeswoman said that the trash bins “can store up to five tall kitchen garbage bags and are compatible with the lifting mechanisms on the new garbage trucks making the dumping of garbage more efficient and safer”.

Bins can be bought at the Ministry of Public Works’ head office on the third floor of the Government Post Office on Church Street in the City of Hamilton.

They will be available for pick-up from Tynes Bay.
