Family Centre backs Pride
Family Centre has voiced its support for the Bermuda Pride movement emphasising that its services are available to all.
The charity for families will have an information table at the Bermuda Pride parade on August 31 for anyone with questions about access to its services.
Family Centre services are open to all children between the ages of 4 and 18 and their families. The organisation provides early intervention services to children who are suffering from family based problems such as abuse, neglect, and other emotional challenges.
Sandy De Silva, Family Centre director of services, said: “For many individuals and families this is a reprieve from the daily challenges that many LGBTQI+ individuals experience. It is a way to provide support and encouragement to those who are in need of support and acceptance.
“Family Centre is a therapeutic resource for all families in Bermuda who need social and emotional support and we are proud to be inclusive.
“We believe in the promotion of positive mental health and wellbeing for everyone, including the LGBTQI+ community and their loved ones.”
The charity said in a statement that members of the LGBTQI+ community world wide continue to face social economic and personal challenges which can have an adverse effect on families.
Martha Dismont, executive director of Family Centre, added: “Pride is a celebratory time for the LGBTQI+ community and supporters alike. It is also a time to reaffirm our commitment to creating a more equitable world for everyone. We celebrate the partnerships that we have formed based upon this shared core value of desired wellbeing for all.”
The Bermuda Pride parade and celebrations are due to take place under the theme of ‘We Belong’ on Saturday.
