The return of the Spirit of Bermuda to the island has been delayed by Hurricane Humberto.
A spokeswoman for the charity said the ship has been in Belfast, Maine, for an eight-week refit.
She added that it would spend a few days in Gloucester, Maine, before it heads home.
Mike Moreland, the Captain, said: “The ship and crew remain well as we settle into our cozy birth alongside the Gloucester Heritage Centre. The crew will remain in watches as to ensure the ships security.”
He added that he hoped to set sail for Bermuda early tomorrow morning.
The ship will welcome pupils from Dellwood Middle School for the first voyage of the year on September 30.
