Belco scholarships
The Bermuda Electric Light Company Ltd. (‘BELCO’) would like to congratulate the recipients of this year’s annual scholarships and bursaries, ranging from $1,000 to $25,000 per selected student. Sixteen deserving students received the BELCO scholarships and bursary awards, which will assist them in their tertiary studies.
Ezra Turner received the $25,000 BELCO Postgraduate STEM Scholarship for a qualified Bermudian who is pursuing a postgraduate degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) related discipline. Ms. Turner is studying Digital Innovation Management at Loughborough University in London.
The $25,000 BELCO Business & Commerce Graduate Scholarship was awarded to Amari Evans, who is studying Adult & Organisational Development at Temple University.
Chloe Smith, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, received the $25,000 BELCO Engineering Scholarship.
BELCO granted STEM Education awards of varying amounts to the following students working towards a degree in a STEM related discipline:
• Giovanni Hollis – Northeastern University, Bachelor in BioEngineering
• Amber Reid – Northeastern University, BS Environmental Science
• Jawonday Smith – University of the West of England, BS Environmental Science
• Joshua Santucci-Smith – University of Tampa, BS Environmental Science
• Yulia Isaeva – University of Ontario, Bachelors of Engineering (Hons), Program in Mechatronics Engineering
• Tabia Butterfield – Cardiff University, Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering
• Cormac Sagurs – University of Southampton, Bachelor Degree in Aeronautics & Astronautics/Spacecraft Engineering
• Cameron Lee-Ming – University of British Columbia, Bachelor of Applied Science – Mechanical Engineering (Thermofluids)
• Amari Ebbin – University of South Wales, Aeronautical Engineering
Students graduating from The Berkeley Institute and CedarBridge Academy were eligible for a $2,500 Bursary Award for Continuing Education at Bermuda College. This year, these bursaries were awarded to Kwensi Cann and Kaylee Lema from The Berkeley Institute and Malachi Butterfield and Jordan Desilva from Cedarbridge Academy.
“The scholarship and awards applicants went through a rigorous selection process,” stated BELCO President, Dennis Pimentel. “The chosen recipients have proven themselves to be exceedingly intelligent, hardworking and capable. Through their studies, these young people will gain valuable knowledge and expertise, which they will then bring back to benefit Bermuda as a whole.”
