Island Trading has donated $5,000 to the Action on Alzheimer’s & Dementia (AAD) charity. The furniture, pool and island lifestyle store, on Reid Street East, presented the donation to the charity’s president Elizabeth Stewart.

“We are delighted to continue to support AAD. We know firsthand what a difference this charity makes to the day to day lives of people and their families struggling with dementia”, said Laura Farge-Lowe, Managing Director. “My Father has been living with dementia for several years. It continues to be a difficult emotional journey for our family, but thanks to the AAD team, it has been made so much easier to navigate with their knowledge and guidance.”

“We hope our donation will encourage other businesses to help the Charity develop even more dementia resources within our community.”

Elizabeth Stewart, President confirmed that funds will go towards the services of Marie Fay, an Occupational Therapist who is specialized in dementia care. “This is a hugely important service to families. Marie Fay with whom we contract visits families and the person living with dementia to provide a cognitive & safety assessment, along with education, recommendations to the family regarding daily care planning & ideas to help the individual living with dementia remain as independent as possible”.
