Walk to raise cash for Agape House

Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd. and Friends of Hospice, the charity supporting Agape House, are once again partnering to host the “Friends of Hospice/Hannover Re Walk/Run” that features a 5k, 10k and ½ marathon run, with a 5k and 10k walk. This will take place this Sunday, November 24th, 2019 at 7.30 a.m. at the Tucker Property on South Shore Road.

Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd. have been sponsoring a successful running event since 2008 and for the past three years, partnered with the Friends of Hospice “Walk to Remember” event to raise funds that support Friends of Hospice’s mission and mandate. The event also benefits the Bermuda National Athletics Association.

Proceeds from registration fee for the run benefit the BNNA, which represents, promotes and develops running and athletics programmes for Bermuda’s youth, while emphasizing fitness and healthy lifestyles. Proceeds from registration fees for the walk benefit Friends of Hospice, a Bermuda registered charity, whose mandate is to raise awareness of and provide financial support for Agape House, Bermuda’s only hospice.

The organizers encourage athletes, friends and families to come out for the event and support this excellent fundraising effort by signing up on www.racedayworld.com. There will be prizes for many categories of the event, and also features some exciting door prizes allowing everyone the opportunity to be a winner!

Dr. Konrad Rentrup, CEO of Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd. stated, “The three running distances offered in this event are a great opportunity for athletes to prepare for the Bermuda Triangle Challenge (formerly Bermuda Marathon Weekend) which is coming shortly after Christmas on January 17th to 19th. The run events are sanctioned by the BNAA and will be timed.”

Dirk Hasselkuss, CUO of Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd., added, “We sees this event as a great opportunity to give back to the community and to support two fantastic charities, being “Friends of Hospice” and the “BNAA – Bermuda National Athletics organization”. With the walking and running distances on offer we hope to foster a healthy lifestyle for all residents and visitors of Bermuda alike. Our highly committed staff will participate actively in either the run or walk or by volunteering on the day. As we are now already in the lead up to the festive period of the year the event also provides an opportunity to build up some fitness ahead of the often times more relaxing Holiday Season.

Jennifer Mahoney, Executive Director of Friends of Hospice, said, “It is our great pleasure to once again be partnering with Hannover Re (Bermuda) Ltd. on this community focused initiative. This is a great opportunity for members of the community to come out and spend some quality time with one another while taking in the fresh air and getting some exercise. Despite some rather extreme weather last year, volunteers and participants braved the elements in an effort to show support for two great charities, and for that we are extremely thankful.”

The event starts and ends at the Tucker Property on South Shore. Walkers and the ½ marathon runners will start at 7.30am while the 5k and 10k runners will start at 8.00am. We encourage all walkers and runners to register for the event on www.racedayworld.com or folks can also simply show up and register on the day at 7:00am for an additional $10 surcharge.
