A children’s rights campaigner has been appointed as executive director of an adventure programme for young people.

Dany Pen will succeed Tina Nash at Raleigh International Bermuda, a charity set up to help at-risk young people aged between 17 and 24 develop life skills through overseas expeditions and coaching.

Ms Pen said: “I am excited to join an important organisation that helps to pave way for our young people to discover themselves by challenging them in unique and complex situations through local training and international expeditions and to become resilient, confident, and positive active local and global citizens.”

Tasha Jones, the chairwoman of Raleigh Bermuda, said: “We are very excited to have Dany join our Raleigh Bermuda family and look forward to working with her to expand our programme and our support of our alumni network.”

Ms Pen has worked with at-risk and underprivileged families and children in Bermuda, the United States and Canada for more than 15 years.

She has campaigned for the rights of children and families by supporting access to education.

She won the World Builder award from OCAD University in Canada in 2016 for her contributions to the community and culture.

Ms Pen is also the founder of Women’s Action Change Today, set up to promote equality, justice and support for survivors of sexual assault, violence and domestic abuse in Bermuda.
