Schoolgirl missing for 12 days found

A 14-year-old girl missing from a government care home for 12 days was found yesterday.

Police said that the teenager had been returned to the care of the Department of Child and Family Services.

The Royal Gazette has chosen not to name the child, as there is now no public appeal to trace her.

The news came after police checked locations in Warwick last night and Sandys this morning but “to no avail”.

The schoolgirl left her care home without permission on January 10.

Her disappearance caused a member of the public to offer a $500 reward for information that led to the girl’s safe return.

A BPS spokesman earlier thanked the media and members of the public who had supported the effort to find the teenager.
