Road closures as building is demolished
The Ministry of Public Works advises the public of road closures and parking restrictions in the City of Hamilton beginning this Friday, 28 February until the end of day on Sunday, 1 March to accommodate demolition of the Valerie T. Scott building located at 60 Reid Street.
As of 6:00 pm on Friday, 28 February until end of day Sunday, 1 March, no parking will be allowed in the following areas:
• Parliament Street between Front and Reid Street; and
• Reid Street, immediately adjacent to the Valerie T. Scott Building and the Music Box.
On Saturday, 29 February until end of day Sunday, 1 March the following road closures will be in place:
• Parliament Street from Front Street to Reid Street will be closed; and
• A section of Reid Street from Parliament Street heading west will be reduced to single lane traffic.
The remainder of Reid Street will remain open, however, in the interest of safety, further detours may be implemented.
In light of the planned road closures and parking restrictions, members of the public are advised to remove all vehicles from the aforementioned areas and adhere to the parking restrictions to be put in place. Vehicles not removed may be towed away at the owner’s expense.
“Prior to this demolition - in an effort to save on costs, the windows, blinds, front door fixtures & fittings of the Valerie T. Scott building will be removed to be reused .” said Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col David Burch. “Once these items are removed, demolition of this building will proceed followed shortly thereafter by Allenhurst to make way for the new Ottiwell A. Simmons Arbitration Centre.”
Demolition plans for Allenhurst, located adjacent to the Valerie Scott building at 42 Parliament Street are being finalized and updates will be provided as they are available.
The Ministry of Public Works encourages the public’s full cooperation and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience.
