Special pink birthday party for Harold

Century celebration: David Burt, the Premier, congratulates Harold Smith(Photograph supplied)

A man known for his love of the island’s signature colour of pink has notched up a century.

Harold Smith was joined by more than 100 family members and friends at a 100th birthday party held at the Bermuda Industrial Union last Friday.

The event, attended by David Burt, the Premier, included dinner, tributes and prayers.

Mr Smith, from Pembroke, was born on February 21, 1920.

He drove a pink taxi for years and can still be seen on his pink bicycle on the streets of Hamilton.

Mr Burt said it was a “great honour” to have been invited.

He added: “I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful tributes to Mr Smith and I’m glad that I got to spend time with this Bermudian centenarian.”
