CoH effects 10% wage cuts across the board
The Corporation of Hamilton has cut staff pay by 10 per cent because of financial losses caused by the coronavirus.
City Hall said the across-the-board temporary reduction was agreed with the Bermuda Public Services Union and the Bermuda Industrial Union.
The corporation has predicted significant losses in its income because of damage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. It said it had already made “extensive cuts” to its operational expenses for this year by the postponement of capital projects and events.
Dwayne Caines, the city’s chief operating officer and secretary, said: “The Corporation of Hamilton is committed to its staff, and our No 1 priority is the health and safety of our employees, as well as retaining the full workforce. We remain committed to be a democratically elected, vibrant, safe and clean city, focused on economic growth and livability.”
