The Speaker of the House of Assembly will celebrate Bermuda Day on board the sail training ship Spirit of Bermuda.

Dennis Lister will set sail from Dockyard tomorrow morning with the help of a five-man crew.

They will voyage around the Great Sound in the west end and Hamilton Harbour before a return to Dockyard around 2pm.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, which owns the ship, said that the foundation wanted to give a “senior member of politics” first-hand experience of life aboard the Spirit of Bermuda.

He added: “We wanted to get the ship out on the water on Bermuda Day just to celebrate Bermuda’s maritime history.

“It’s really an opportunity just to remind people in the community that we’re still around, we’re still viable and we’re still ready, willing and able to sail as soon as Government restrictions are lifted.”
