Bermuda Red Cross is celebrating its 70th anniversary with a virtual community festival packed with local talent.

A planned series of in-person events to mark the occasion had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A spokeswoman for Bermuda Red Cross said: “With great determination we still want to celebrate this historic event, so on August 1 we are having Community Fest. This will be a virtual concert featuring 13 acts, all Bermudian singers and bands.”

The seven-hour festival will be streamed live on YouTube, Twitch, Periscope and the Bermuda Red Cross website.

The charity has been closed since April save its disaster management service which helped vulnerable people manage through the pandemic.

The spokeswoman added: “Looking at a new normal in our future, we’ve had to either postpone or cancel our events and come up with alternative ideas to ensure our essential service areas are maintained as we work hard to be here for Bermuda for another seventy years and beyond.”

There is no admission fee but donations can be made at bermudaredcross.com/donate-money/ or on 236-8253.
