A lifeline for people in need of financial aid because of the Covid-19 pandemic will be unveiled in the House of Assembly tomorrow.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Labour said it would “ensure that individuals still in need of financial aid are transitioned to long-term support”.

An emergency unemployment benefits programme started on March 24, at first for 12 weeks, but later extended to 16 weeks. But the 16-week period is due to end. The spokesman said: “Plans will be relayed directly to recipients and outlined in the House of Assembly on Friday.”
