A Cup Match roadshow will be run by a supermarket chain after the cricket match was cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions.

The MarketPlace will offer customers the chance to take part in some of the traditions associated with the Annual Classic over three days next week.

Stores at Shelly Bay, Heron Bay and Somerset will host the event from 4pm to 8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.

Vendors including 9 Parishes, Ashley’s Lemonade, Beat the Heat Treats and Casa Dos Açores will be on hand for snacks and beverages.

A spokesman explained that the “special highlight” would be a twist on Crown and Anchor.

He said: “For every $50 spent at The MarketPlace, customers will receive an entry form to place their bets — in lieu of cash — winning bets will then be entered into a draw for one of three $100 gift cards.

“Purchases must be made on the day.”

DJ Chubb will play music during the afternoon and Gombey performances will start at 7.30pm, featuring Places New Generation Gombeys on Monday and Tuesday and Gombey Warriors on Wednesday

Seth Stutzman, the president of The MarketPlace group of companies, said: “We know how important Cup Match is to customers and communities, it’s a fun celebratory time for all.

“With this year’s event cancelled we wanted to put an event together that is fun and lively and offers just a bit of the Cup Match experience.

“We hope everyone enjoys and has a safe Cup Match holiday.”

Customers will be required to wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines.
