Tropical storm ‘no threat’ at present

Tropical Storm Gonzalo is not a threat to Bermuda at present, the Bermuda Weather Service said tonight.

Forecasters said the closest point of approach by the storm in the next three days was expected to be about 1340 miles to the south at 3pm on Sunday.

But they added: “This system may move closer to Bermuda after this time period depending on its track.”

The storm was about 1648 miles south east of the island at 6pm.

Gonzalo was moving west at about 18mph with sustained winds of about 40mph and gusts of up to 52mph.
