Bermudian artist JayLynn Hines is the latest recipient of the Bermuda Arts Council’s Individual Grant Award.

The grant, paid by funding from the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, will assist Ms Hines in her artistic endeavours.

The singer, songwriter and recording engineer, known as Jay III, aims to complete her certification as an Avid Pro Tools Operator in Music Production to become equipped with industry-level knowledge about both studio and live music production.

Lovitta Foggo, the Minister for Community Affairs and Sport, said: “JayLynn is a young local star on the rise. At the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs we are committed to supporting our young Bermudian talent because they are the next generation of creative leaders and advocates of our unique culture and heritage.

“So we are expecting great things from JayLynn in the years ahead and the ministry and the BAC are so thrilled to do our part to help nurture this local talent.”

Ms Hines’s music is rooted in soca and reggae which she grew up listening to.

Her first release Feeling For Ya won the Quest for the Best Song Competition sponsored by the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, produced by Rusty G/Intense Mas. It was also nominated for an international music award.

Her sound is influenced by R&B, hip-hop, reggaetone and afro-beat genres.

She has spent time in Toronto and Miami, developing her skills and knowledge while immersing herself within all aspects of the music and entertainment industry.

Jennifer Phillips, chairwoman of the BAC, added: “In keeping with our principal objectives of developing and improving the knowledge, understanding and practise of the arts, as well as increasing the accessibility of the arts in our community, the BAC awards grants throughout the year to both individuals and organisations.

“JayLynn is passionate and dedicated to her craft, and BAC is pleased to award her this individual grant to assist in enhancing her expertise in audio production.

“Certification as an Avid Pro Tools Operator in Music Production will broaden her reach among industry professionals and she is eager to use these high level skills to continue to put Bermuda on the map.”
