Power restored after Belco outages

Belco has restored power to 7,000 customers following outages caused by several major transmission faults.

The outages happened yesterday because of three faults on primary transmission lines in Middle Road, Southampton.

Belco crews worked throughout the night to repair the cables and restore power to customers across the West End.

Dennis Pimentel, Belco president, said this afternoon: “All of the cables have been repaired and power has been restored to all customers.

“Belco is currently working on a grid modernisation project throughout the island and this includes replacing aged underground cables, some of which are more than 60 years old. These grid upgrades will assist in preventing similar outages in future.

“I would like to apologise to all of our valued customers for this inconvenience and thank them for their patience and understanding as we worked to restore their power as quickly as possible.”
