Recall issued on hand sanitisers

A large range of hand sanitisers has been recalled after it was found to have microbe contamination as well as methanol, a highly toxic chemical.

Bermuda’s Department of Consumer Affairs sent out the alert yesterday on 135 contaminated hand sanitisers, in co-operation with the US Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA also found some of the products lacked the necessary sanitising chemicals, while others were falsely marketed as “FDA approved”.

Distributors and stores were advised to check their stock, remove the affected products, and destroy them, while consumers should stop using the products and dispose of them.
