A moment of silence was held on the Cabinet Office grounds to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
John Rankin, the Governor, and Renée Ming, the Minister of National Security, laid a wreath at the war memorial on Saturday to commemorate VJ-Day — victory over Japan — the unconditional surrender of the country on August 15, 1945 that brought an end to the conflict.
Germany had laid down its arms on May 7 that year, signifying victory in Europe or VE-Day.
