Reflections on emancipation

Artistic expression: a Bermuda Society of Arts exhibition to mark Emancipation Day is on display at City Hall (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Artists shared their reflections on emancipation in a new exhibition at the Bermuda Society of Arts.

Artwork was submitted to mark Emancipation Day and was put on display at the City Hall Arts Centre last Friday.

The BSoA said: “Bermuda’s history is ripe with the seeds of chattel slavery.

“Only through the exercise of acknowledgement can we fully understand the extent that the past informs our actions.

“As time passes, it allows us to reflect and understand how previous events inform our actions.”

The gallery is open from 10am to 4pm from Monday to Friday, and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays.
