Firefighters extinguished a brushfire on South Road in Paget on Saturday afternoon, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service reported.

A spokesman for the BFRS said a report was received at 1.11pm that a Belco pole was on fire on South Road close to the junction with Southcote Road, near Elbow Beach.

The BFRS sent an appliance and four firefighters from Hamilton Fire Station to the scene.

Upon arrival, the spokesman said, fire crews saw a transformer attached to the electric pole smoking and brush on fire.

Fire crews determined that a fuse from the transformer had burnt out and dropped into some dry bush under the pole, causing it to burn.

No one was injured.
