Police officers remembered hero colleagues lost in the devastation of Hurricane Fabian 17 years ago last weekend.

Stephen Symons and Nicole O’Connor, both serving officers, station duty officer Gladys Saunders, as well as Manuel Pacheco, a member of the public, were killed when they were swept off Causeway in St George’s in the September, 2003 storm.

The officers, who were travelling with Ms Saunders, died after they stopped to help Mr Pacheco, whose car had broken down on the Causeway.

A granite bench and monument in their memory was later installed in Kindley Field Park, where officers and family members gathered last Saturday to pay their respects.

They were joined at the memorial ceremony by Commissioner of Police Stephen Corbishley and Renée Ming, the Minister of National Security.

Mr Corbishley said: “As a service we will continue to gather here every year, but on every other day we will still remember the loss of those lives on that day.”
