Members of the public will be able to get a sneak preview of the new airport’s passenger terminal when its operators carry out a trial run to test its procedures.

A spokeswoman for Skyport, which runs the airport, said the organisation wanted volunteers to act as pretend passengers for trials scheduled to take place before the airport opens.

The spokeswoman said: “Skyport will host a total of nine trial sessions, inviting more than 800 people to comprehensively test facilities, systems and procedures in the new passenger terminal building.

“Mock passengers will play an important role during these trials because they will simulate all arrival and departure processes, including check-in, security, US Customs and Border Protection clearance, boarding, disembarking, immigration, baggage reclaim and HM Customs clearance.”

Some volunteers will also be asked to help simulate medical emergencies and travellers arriving with invalid documents.

The spokeswoman added: “This is a unique opportunity for members of the public to get a first-hand look at the terminal before it opens to the general public.”

Trials will be held every Tuesday from 4pm to 6pm and every Thursday from 9am to 11am between October 20 and November 19.

Strict Covid-19 safety precautions will in force and participants will be given lunch or dinner and a gift box.
