<Bt-2z40>$1,000 is at stake in Trojans-Hornets clash

With the difference of $1,000 awarded for the fourth-place finisher, Dandy Town Hornets and Somerset Trojans will battle for that position and the extra cash incentive during their Premier Division match-up at BAA tonight (kick-off 8 p.m.).

Going into the lone remaining league contest of the season the Westenders hold down fourth place in the tables with 19 points while the Hornets are in fifth just one point behind.

The standings show that the Hornets need maximum points to overtake their opponents and consequently snatch the cash while the Trojans require just a draw to see them through from this make-up encounter.

The eventual team that captures fourth spot will wind up with a total cash haul of $5,000 for finishing fourth while the fifth-placed team receives $4,000.

Winners of the championship Devonshire Cougars have already wrapped up the first place prize of $8,000 with the other two top positions having also been decided. Second-placed North Village will receive $7,000 while third-placed Boulevard Blazers get $6,000.

[bul] Meanwhile there is certain to be a First Division team in this year’s FA Cup final with yesterday’s semi-final draw seeing quarter-final giant-killers St. George’s Colts being matched against their counterparts from the First Division Devonshire Colts on April 15 at a venue to be announced.

The other draw sees an all-Premier Division clash between Somerset Trojans and Boulevard Blazers on April 8 also at a venue to be named.

Although Eastenders scored a stunning quarter-final victory over reigning champions North Village Rams two weeks ago in the quarter-final, St. George’s player-coach Neil Paynter wasn’t about to celebrate anything yesterday after the draw, pointing out that avoiding a Premier Division team didn’t give them an automatic safe route into the final.

“I had no real preference who we played in the semi-final. To be honest every team left in the competition is capable of winning the trophy. By drawing Devonshire Colts we are certainly not guaranteed anything, we have to continue to play well and win the game first,” said Paynter.

The women’s FA Cup semi-final on April 8 will precede the Trojans-Blazers clash with Dandy Stars taking on Lady Colts while the other women’s semi-final on April 15 before the Devonshire Colts-St. George’s game will see Prospect clashing with Lady Cougars.
