Runners get ready for Derby

Runners gearing up for the May 24 Marathon Derby will have another a chance to stretch their legs in a competitive race this Sunday in the Sir Stanley Burgess 5K.

The race, which received a major financial boost from Government last year, starts at the top of Frog Lane on Gymnasium Road and finishes back at Devonshire Rec.

Lamont Marshall pipped veteran Jay Donawa last year to claim the winner’s medal — clocking what is believed to be the second-fastest 5K time in local history of 15 minutes and three seconds, only five seconds off Kavin Smith’s record.

The junior 3K race gets underway at 8.30 a.m. on Sunday with the main event starting half an hour later.

Entry forms are available from the Sportseller, International Sports Shop and Sports R’Us until today at 4.30 p.m..

Late entries and race number pick-up is tomorrow from 1-3 p.m. at Devonshire Rec.
